OMG GIRLLLL! Saw the billboard on 59 while on our way to Port Lavaca. We decided to stop by on our way back to Houston and we are so glad we did! I ordered the fried chicken, mac & cheese, and greens. My friend got the fried pork chops, mashed potatoes, and mac & cheese. Both chicken & chops were fried to order so the were nice and fresh. Everything and I mean everything was fresh and perfectly seasoned. The cornbread was sweet(as it should be) and their kool-aid was on point. The peach cobbler was to amazing. Great friendly people (customers and staff), good conversation, and an excellent meal. We definitely will be stopping by whenever we are heading to South Texas. Absolutely recommend!
If you are on highway 59, you must stop here. The oxtails are delicious and made with love. The spaghetti had a kick but not overly hot. The pork chops were tender and fresh! The service was exceptional! Don’t forget to try the kool aid… it is out of this world. We will definitely be back while we are headed 59 South.
We happened upon Evelyn’s driving through Texas and I’m so glad we did! We were greeted with smiling faces and great vibes walking in. We asked a woman who was sitting and enjoying a meal with her grandchildren what she having and she recommended the pork chops. She was funny and sweet; we’d later come to realize she was the owner Evelyn. We ended sitting down and literally trying every dish they had; greens, yams, chitterlings, ox tails, fried and smothered pork chops, smothered steak, okra, black eyed peas and mash potatoes & rice and gravy. Oh and the turkey necks, omg, so dang good!! Everything was so well seasoned, it was like having a Thanksgiving meal on a random Sunday. There wasn’t a single dish that wasn’t absolutely delicious! Oh and the cornbread was spot on!! I really wish this place was closer, we felt like we were family sitting down for dinner. Evelyn and her daughter Kiki were gracious and hospitable, they felt like a bit of home away from home.
I was working in the area and came across this place on Google. I am so happy I did too! The staff and others inside were super welcoming. The fact that it is small and they're so friendly makes the atmosphere inviting and family oriented. The food was already made up and you're able to see what it looks like before making your choice which was really cool. They have plenty of options to choose from! I picked smothered porkchops over rice and was so indecisive to pick the two more sides as everything looked so good so I let the lady pick it for me. She picked the greens and mac n cheese and yall!! It was amazing!! All of it! Best ever! I even got a peach cobbler and it was amazing too! The portion was so huge that I literally have lunch and dinner!! Great quality and huge portion for your money!! I definitely will be coming back and it recommend this place to anyone!! Yall don't be shy! Go check this place out now!

This was some of the best food I’ve ate in a long time. This is the second time I’ve been here and she served us like family!!! Loved the tea and love the food to my cheat meal
OMG!! On our way back from Houston to the RGV, my husband spotted the sign for Evelyn’s Soul Food. We said “what the heck! let’s give it a try.” We are so glad we did. They have the best customer service and bar far some of the best soul food we have ever eaten. Everything was so damn delicious!!! Their wonderful hospitality and fantastic food made this visit worth every minute. If you’re in the area, stop on by. You won’t be disappointed. We had the oxtail, smothered steak, fried fish, macaroni, green beans, mashed potatoes, rice, and sweet potatoes. Soooooo goooood! Their cornbread is divine! Their German chocolate cake was baked to perfection! Can’t wait until our next visit! God bless you all.

It was my husband and I first time here yesterday 2/8/2026. The food was amazing and Ms. Evelyn was such a sweet lady. She sat and talked to us a while and shared a little about her up bringing learning how to cook from her grandmother and mother. I love this place because it’s so family friendly and very welcoming AND to have a great tasteful family meal. We will definitely be going back.
This was the best food I’ve had in quite some time! The oxtail, green beans, and yams were my favorite but everything was so delicious. Everyone was so kind and welcoming too. I would highly recommend visiting
